Follow the Ash Watchtower quest chain and buy the Ashfall Leathers before anything else. The chain teaches the weakness system and hands you the Warden's Sigil for free; the Leathers make everything after it trivial. Do not explore east, do not farm gold, do not buy weapons — quest first, armor second, everything else third.
Your First Hour, Step by Step
- Complete the gate tutorial: one wolf pack, one bow lesson. The game hands you both weapons here.
- Take the Ash Watchtower chain and complete "thin the canopy" — the bat swarm teaches ranged weakness play.
- Farm wolf packs on the southern road until you hold 3 Alpha Pelts + 150 gold.
- Buy Ashfall Leathers at the Vale blacksmith. This is the checkpoint the whole early game is aimed at.
- Finish the Watchtower chain ("light the three signal fires") and receive the Warden's Sigil.
The One System That Matters: Elemental Weakness
Every monster is attuned to an element and weak to its opposite. Hitting the weakness doubles damage; hitting the attunement heals the monster. Fire-line creatures (both bosses, two of three monsters) are weak to Ice — which is why Frostbrew is the only potion veterans buy in bulk. Learn the bestiary table before your first boss attempt, not after.
What Comes After the Vale
The Ashen Warden drops the Region Gate Key, which opens Emberdeep — the endgame region. The jump in difficulty is the largest in the game: everything there assumes Leathers, Frost potions and clean play. If the Warden fight felt hard, farm the Vale a little longer; Emberdeep will wait.
