How to Unlock
Traders appear in faction camps as you explore. The official description: "Trade or fight with different factions" — friendly camps host merchants who buy and sell for rusted nuts, the wasteland currency.
Milestones.index.colTrigger
A friendly camp with a merchant
How to Obtain: Roam until you find a non-hostile camp. Merchants carry randomized items in both directions — what they sell and what they buy changes per trader.
Mechanics
Rusted Nuts Are Money
Currency in Apocalypter is rusted nuts — collect them from loot and spend them with traders. Sell what you looted and do not need; the official trading loop is how you turn scavenging overflow into the specific parts you actually want.
Randomized Stock
Merchants have randomized items that they sell and buy. The community-confirmed trick: you can save and reload the game to reroll a trader's inventory — when you need one specific part and the trader did not bring it, reload and check again.
Strategy
Scouting Camps
Not every camp trades. Watchtowers in particular come in hostile and non-hostile variants — scout from a distance before driving in. Hostile camps are combat content: enemies drop ammo, weapons and healing items. Friendly ones are your economy.
- Approach camps slowly and read the reaction before committing
- Bank rusted nuts constantly — prices at the next trader are random
- Sell duplicate car parts; keep one spare of everything critical
- Use save/reload to reroll stock when hunting a specific item
What to Buy First
Body armor, a backpack and a flashlight are the official character upgrade path — they make looting safer, longer and darker-proof (caves). Binoculars come later and change how you scout camps before engaging.
Rewards
- Access to the buy/sell economy
- Reroll mechanics for targeted shopping
